High Fidelity in its simplest form means to hear accurately. When meaningful communication fails, the only sound is silence. This whole opening sequence is about communication and the disconnection between people. The juxtaposition of imagery from city streets and that of classic vinyl records help convey this message while tying in with the theme and musical references in the movie. The integration of graffiti throughout shows disconnection as well as communication. It is the expression of the night time poets whose voices are seen but never heard.
